Koto & Shamisen
Born in Shimonoseki in 1968 as the eldest daughter of Kazuko Yanase, a Kyushu-style jiuta shamisen and koto player. At the age of six, she studied koto under Yasutomi Sachiko, and at the age of eighteen, she began to play the shamisen under the guidance of her mother. Studied koto under Oda Keiko in 1986. In 1989, she began her studies of ensemble music under shakuhachi master Araki Kodō V, and has been his student ever since. In 1993, she studied under master Fujii Yasukazu of the Ginmeikai. In the same year, she began teaching koto at Yamaguchi Prefectural Chofu High School's koto club. Also studied koto and shamisen under Akagi Mitsuaki. Lives and works in Shimonoseki City. She is currently active in performing and teaching in Yamaguchi, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, and Oita, as well as teaching and training younger students.
