Born April 27, 1909 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Takahata Sendō (Takahata Shin) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Motoki Ōdō and started teaching in 1932. He was the branch manager of the Akashi Kobe Hatsune-kai. His shakuhachi career spanned 50 years.
