Koike Reizan II (Koike Rinzō) was born July 28, 1924 in Tokyo and was a shakuhachi teacher and performer for more than 40 years. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Koike Reizan I and became an instructor in 1943. He belonged to the Kanto branch of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Gaku-kai and headed the Reirin-kai. He won two prizes in a national music competition for composition and three prizes for performance.
