Born December 24, 1938 in Chiba Prefecture, Nakao Shidō (Nakao Kenshi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Suzuki Kodō and began teaching in 1950. He belonged to Kochiku-kai and was a member of the association's Utsunomiya branch.
