Kondō Sōitsu (Kondō Denroku) was born January 29, 1912 in Aichi Prefecture. He studied under Mizutani Itsusei and Kawase Junsuke I and began his long teaching career in 1932. He belonged to the Tokai Kinko Renmei. He was a Junior 7th Rank Order of the Rising Sun, 5th Class. He was part of the shakuhachi world for more than 40 years.
