Akino Meizan (Akino Kiichirō) was born November 18, 1912 in Tokushima Prefecture.
He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Miki Izan, a student of Ōmatsu Kōzan.
He became an instructor in March 1949, and eventually attained the rank of Dai-Shihan and the title Chikurin-ken
During his long career in shakuhachi, he spent four terms as an advisor to the Tozan-ryū Gaku-kai, eight terms as prefectural branch chief, seven years as vice branch chief, and was twice appointed as member of the Master and Associate instructor examination committee.
He spent 28 years as an auditor, and 22 years as permanent director of the Tokushima Sankyoku Kyōkai.
In 1979 he was recipient of the Reward of Excellence at the Prefectural Arts Festival.
