Koto
Miyagi Kiyoko began studying koto with Miyagi Michiyo, (her uncle by marriage), in 1918. She partnered with Miyagi in the development of the Miyagi School of Arts. After the death of Miyagi, she became the Miyagi family head (soke) as well as head instructor for the many students of the school and the chairperson of the Miyagi association. She also nourished the younger generation as a professor of Tokyo University of Fine Arts. Miyagi Kiyoko became the chairperson of Japan Sankyoku Association in 1978. Designated as Living National Treasure in 1983. Became a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1986 and received the Third Order of Merit "Zuihou" Prize for her many activities promoting koto music.
