Uehara Masaki

Born in Tokyo in 1869. Blind since the age of three . At the age of nine he became a student of the Yamada-ryū koto player Asai Chiyoda. He later studied with Okumura Masako and became the Yamada-ryū lineage successor. (Note: Okumura was an Ikuta style player, and the circumstances of the conversion to the Yamada style are unknown). Uehara also interacted with the Yamaki school and the Nakanoshima lineage, and was known for his singing voice. His compositions include Sato no Shiki and Haru no Asa.
