Born in Fukuoka July 10, 1900, Fukuda Shōdō (birth name Eigorō) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi with Maeda Masaji, Matsuo Getsudan, and finally, Unrin'in Kidō. He belonged to the Fukuoka Chikuryu-kai, was a president of the Fukuoka Sankyoku Kyo-kai, and a director of the Fukuoka Cultural Federation. His career in shakuhachi spanned more than 60 years.
