Born 8/5/1947 in Tokyo, Watanabe Fūya (born Watanabe Hiroshi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi with Sasaki Sōfū and was a member of Sōfū-kai. He earned his Shihan (teaching license) in 1965.
