Born on February 17, 1906 in Takamatsu City, Miki Shūen (Miki Kyoshi),studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Okada Hōkō. Started teaching in 1937. Became a Dai-Shihan in 1950. He was the first chairman (and later director) of the Ueda-ryu Shakuhachi-do Chikushu-kai.
