Born September 4th, 1914 in Fujiyoshida City, Omata Seiryū (Omata Toshio) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Furuhashi Gadō, Hirokado Reifū, Nōtomi Judō, and Aoki Reibo II; Chikuho-ryū with Sakai Chikuho I; and Meian-ryū under Uramoto Setchō. He was a member of the Asahi Hakuun-kai and received the Order of the Rising Sun, 5th Class.
