Born February 16, 1926 in Kumamoto Prefecture, Irihashi Shōdō (Irihashi Akira) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Matsuura Keidō, Torii Komudō, and Tsurugi Kyomudō. He was a member of the Wakana-kai.
