Founder of the Seien Ryū, Kanemoto Seien was born in the first year of Bunsei, (1818), and died in the twenty-eight year of Meiji, (1895). Seien learned the shakuhachi tradition of the Kinsen-ha, with the last chief priest, Baizan Gyokudo, at the Reitakuzan Fudai-ji in Hanamatsu.
