Born in Osaka in 1929, Horie Shunpū studied with both Yoshida Seifū and Satō Seibi, earning his teacher's license in 1950. He was awarded the first prize for performance in the Japanese Music Competition of the Japan Sankyoku Society. Former director of the Bifū-kai and director of the Osaka Sankyoku Kyokai.
