Shakuhachi
Born April 28, 1908 in Gifu Prefecture, Horikawa Kandō (Horikawa Kōzō) studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Yabuki Ōzan, Ueda Hōdō, and Kikusui Kofū. He started teaching in 1945. Over his career of 40+ years in the shakuhachi world he was the vice president of Hida Sankyoku-kai, received the Hakubi Award, the Honorable Mention Award from the National Arts and Crafts Judging Association, and the Ueda-ryū Permanent Award.
