Fukuhara Rozan (Fukuhara Haruyoshi) was born January 9, 1926 in Hokkaido. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Ōtani Jozan and began teaching in 1954. He was a member of the Hokkaido branch of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Gaku-kai and the Tofū-kai. In 1969 he won first place at the All-Hokkaido Shakuhachi Competition.
