Born 1854 in Kyoto. Studied koto with Matsuzaki Kengyo II. In the late 1800s he began composing tegoto parts for Yoshizawa Kengyo's Kokin-gumi (Haru no Kyoku, Aki no Kyoku, Fuyu no Kyoku, Natsu no Kyoku), gaining these pieces new popularity. Also composed a tegoto for Takano's Ouchiyama and kaete for Nishiyama's Aki no Koto no Ha. Composed his own sankyoku as well, including Kaede no Hana and Haru no Sakae.
