Born October 1, 1930 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Tahama Hōdō (Tahama Yasuo) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Torii Komudō and began teaching in 1963. He was a member of the Kumamoto Wakana-kai and Fukuyama Midori-kai as well as the head of the Hiroshima branch of the Wakanakai.
