Suzuki Chōzan (Suzuki Unokichi) was born December 5, 1908 in Yuki City. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Kurakawa Shōzan and became an instructor in 1938. He was the head of the Chōrei-kai and belonged to the Tozan-ryū Kanto Branch. His career in the Tozan-ryū spanned five decades.
