Satō Kōfū (Satō Nobuyuki) was born January 2, 1916 in Fukushima Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Satō Eidō, Suehiro Kodō, Kawase Junsuke I, and Takahashi Tekkan. He started teaching in 1955. He was a councilor of the Kinko-ryū Kyōkai, secretary of Chikuyu-sha, and counselor of the Nihon Sankyoku-kai.
